Alles is verbonden, maar toch geen verbinding? Wellicht gaat er onderweg iets mis met het netwerkverkeer. Netwerkverbindingen worden in tijden van virtualisatie, containers, cloud en Internet of Things niet bepaald eenvoudiger. En wat doe je wanneer het netwerk niet werkt zoals verwacht? Tijd om te onderzoeken waar het netwerkverkeer naartoe wil, waar het daadwerkelijk heen gaat, of waar het tegenaan loopt.
In deze cursus bespreken we hoe een IP-netwerk in elkaar zit, hoe applicaties verbinding maken en hoe je op Linux de configuratie en diagnose uitvoert. We gaan problemen met het opzetten van verbindingen hands-on aanpakken door systematisch de route van het netwerkverkeer te volgen. Je leert netwerkverkeer op te vangen, te filteren en te analyseren waar het vandaan komt en waar het naartoe gaat. Dit verkeer kun je vervolgens opslaan in een capture-bestand om later met gespecialiseerde tools te analyseren. Zo krijg je dieper inzicht in wat er precies in een netwerkdatapakket gebeurt en wat er onderweg mis kan gaan.

In this course, we'll discuss how an IP network works, how applications connect, and how to configure and diagnose on Linux. We will tackle connection setup problems hands-on by systematically routing network traffic. You will learn to capture network traffic, filter it and analyze where it comes from and where it goes. You can then store this traffic in a capture file to analyze later with specialized tools.
