Mandatory Minimum Training in Advanced Firefighting (STCW)

Target group: The Advanced Firefighting (AFF) is to provide the training for all seafarers who are assigned as being fire team incident commander to take charge in case of fire related calamities on board ships in accordance with Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code 1978, as amended. Prerequisites: For admission to the course and receiving an AFF certificate, the delegate must be in the possession of a valid Seafarers medical, to include use of Breathing Apparatus (BA). There are two options to prove the admission requirements; 1. The seafarer must have a valid Basic Training (BT) in accordance with Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/-1, Table A-VI/1-2, Table A-VI/1-3 and Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code 1978, as amended; or 2. The seafarer must have a valid BT Refresher certificate in accordance with Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/-1 and Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code 1978, as amended. For receiving a AFF certificate the delegate must: - Be in the possession of a valid approved medical certificate for seafarers. - Meet the standard of competence for certificates of AFF set out in Section A-VI/3 paragraphs 1 to 4, Table A-VI/3 of the STCW Code 1978, as amended. Objective: The AFF course helps to train and improve delegates' tactical firefighting skills. By doing so, the delegate remains or becomes a competent Emergency Response Leader in the shipping industry. In four days RelyOnNutec equips (future) Emergency Response Leaders with the tactical skills to control, prevent and investigate fires. Objective: To make the delegate competent to take command, organize and train fire parties and control fire-fighting operations. The delegate will acquire knowledge of fire prevention and an ability to inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment. The delegate will also be able to investigate and report on incidents involving fires. Target group: The Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (PSCRB) is to provide the training for delegates, assigned as being coxswain on board ships, to launch and take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat in emergency situations in accordance with Section A-VI/2-1, Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW Code 1978, as amended. Prerequisites: For admission to the course, seafarers must: - Be in the possession of a valid medical examination. - Be not less than 18 years of age. - Have completed the STCW Basic Safety Training For receiving a certificate of PSCRB the delegate must: - Be in the possession of a valid approved medical certificate for seafarers. - Meet the standards of competence for certificates of PSCRB, set out in Section A-VI/2 paragraphs 1 to 4, Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW Code 1978, as amended. Objective: This STCW course is designed for those who are required to perform survival craft and rescue boat operations during shipboard emergency response situations. On completion of this course, participants should be competent to operate life-saving appliances and take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during or after launch. They will also be able to operate a survival craft engine and manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship. Trainees will know the correct use of all locating devices, including communication and signalling apparatus and pyrotechnics, how to apply first aid to survivors and the actions to take to preserve the lives of those in their charge. Target group: The NOGEPA 1.1 HLO provides the delegate with a range of knowledge and skills relevant to persons designated to act as HLO at an offshore mining installation. This training programme is designed to meet the initial helicopter landing officer training requirements for personnel being assigned as new HLO. Prerequisites: The delegate should be in the possession of a valid registration of the: - Basic or Refresher Course "Member Fire-fighting and Rescue Team" (2.6A/B) in case of refuelling activities are taken place on the installation. - In case no refuelling is taken place on the installation, the Basic or Refresher Course "Fire-fighting Helicopters" (2.9A/B) - or OPITO equivalent certification. Persons enrolling on this course must be able to show a valid medical certificate prior to participating in practical exercises. Objective: The HLO is responsible for the day-to-day management of the helideck, associated helideck operations and supervision of the HDAs. He leads the initial response to a helicopter emergency on an offshore installation or vessel and the HDA helideck emergency response team during the emergency. This NOGEPA course is only accepted in the Dutch continental self of the North Sea. The course provides the delegate with a range of knowledge and skills relevant to helicopter operations and working on an offshore helideck. The objectives are that delegates will gain knowledge about and be able to demonstrate: a) Hazards of helicopter operations, dangerous areas, entry and escape routes (helideck and helicopter), (personal) protective equipment to be used, cleaning, maintenance and completion of available equipment. b) Command and control the preparation of the helideck and associated (fire-fighting) equipment for landing and take-off of a helicopter. c) Performance and registration of exercises regarding various emergency situations. d) Leading the performance of normal and emergency procedures during landing and take-off of helicopters. e) Radio procedures during arrival and departure. f) Processing documentation after landing concerning passengers and freight (including dangerous materials). g) Leading and acting as controller for boarding and disembarking of persons and the loading and the loading and unloading of freight (including dangerous materials). h) Leading and acting as controller for loading the helicopter and the collection of data for determination of the weight of the helicopter. i) Leading and acting as controller during the performance of procedures and actions for starting helicopter engines and any other support provided. j) Leading and acting as controller during helicopter fuel loading operations, as well as keeping the relevant register. k) Carrying out fuel quality checks.
