Overview

Every product or service development starts with requirements. What are the requirements? Many teams struggle with how to discover what is truly needed, and how to manage this information throughout the product or service life cycle.
This course is designed for people who want to learn how to elicit, analyze, validate, document, and manage requirements. It presents an end-to-end requirements engineering framework supported by tools and techniques that may be used at different stages. You will learn how to produce well-formed, high-quality requirements that are crucial to delivering quality products.

Target audience

This course is suitable for Business Analysts, Product Owners, Business Managers and members of their teams, Business Change Managers, and Project Managers.

Depending on the group, the course will be delivered in English or Dutch.

Certification

The course prepares for an examination being a one-hour, closed book, multiple-choice examination leading to the EXIN/BCS Practitioner Certificate in Requirements Engineering. The exam is held at the end of day 3 of the course. The exam is based on the EXIN / BCS Practitioner Certificate in Requirements Engineering syllabus. This course fulfills the European Qualification Framework level 4 and SFIA level 3.

Content of the course

Module 1: Requirements definition as a service

This module explains different approaches to requirements and teaches how to define requirements engineering activities.

Module 2: Eliciting requirements

This module explains different types of knowledge: tacit and explicit. It also discusses requirements elicitation techniques and their advantages and disadvantages.

Module 3: Documenting requirements

This module focuses on how to document requirements. Different frameworks for requirements formulation are introduced (traditional requirements statements, user stories).

Module 4: Analyzing requirements

This module explains why requirements analysis is an essential part of the requirements engineering framework. It also teaches how to analyze individual requirements as well as sets of requirements.

Module 5: Validating requirements

This module discusses different stakeholders in Requirements Engineering as well as their contributions to requirements validation. 

Module 6: Managing requirements

This module tackles aspects of requirements management like configuration control, change control, and baselining. It also discusses the advantages and pitfalls of the usage of dedicated tooling such as Requirements Management packages.
