Opleiding: Electric switching - Dag

Learn all about electrical engineering on the ROVC Electrical Circuits course! Learn to understand and troubleshoot switching technology.

Do you want to increase your knowledge of industrial electrical engineering as found in switch and control boxes? And do you want to learn how to troubleshoot? Then this is the course for you! In this course you will learn, among other things, how to build and test various relay circuits from the ROVC tool case, and how to measure insulation resistance in three-phase motors.

Who will benefit from Electric switching?

Do you want to increase your knowledge of industrial electrical engineering as found in switch and control boxes? And do you want to learn how to troubleshoot? Then this is the course for you! You will be trained to Maintain level. This is comparable to mbo-3 [vocational training] work and education level.

Content of the Electric switching

Construction and operation of electrical controls
• Reading diagrams: Memory circuits, latching circuits, sequential circuits
• Using measuring equipment (multimeter, Duspol)
• Voltage, current and resistance in practice (Ohm's Law)
• When to use alternating current and direct current
• Normally open, normally closed and changeover contacts
• Series and parallel switching in contacts and consuming devices
• Knowledge of components (magnetic switches, auxiliary relays, timer relays)
• Timer relays: on and off delay, combined on and off delay

Construction and operation of motor controls
• Power supply construction, converter, single-phase and three-phase power supplies
• Short-circuiting and overload
• Circuit resistance and voltage loss (Ohm's Law)
• Single-phase and three-phase cage motor (three-phase motor)
• Interpreting motor data (type plate), connecting motors
• Motor circuit for immediate activation, reversing the direction of rotation
• Star-delta circuit for three-phase motors
• Testing motors (winding resistance and insulation resistance)
• Measuring current draw of motor using an ampere clamp meter
• Frequency converters and soft starters, their operation and basic configuration
• Motor circuit protection: Fuses, thermal protection, motor protection switch

Troubleshooting electrical controls
• Procedure using a step-by-step and strategic approach (FRIDS)
• Input - control - output, thinking in blocks
• Using PLCs in control systems
• Measuring methods: Expected value - Process value – Waterfall method - Testing efficiently
• Reading techniques for comprehensive diagrams: Reduce to subdiagrams
• Cross referencing of components and relays, potential referencing
• Through testing, finding the actual cause of faults in relays and PLC controls

Study workload
The average preparation time for each lesson is 2 hours. In the online learning environment, all questions, case studies and assignments are ready to use. The study workload amounts to 7 hours of learning and an average of 2 hours per day of preparatory study.

E-Learning

• There is unlimited access to all course material via MijnROVC
• Instructor contact time (for up to 2 months after completion)
• Access to e-learning via EasyGenerator for 1 year

Electric switching final assessment

The course concludes with a digital exam. At the end of the course, you can choose the location, date, and time of your exam. However, the exam must be taken within 6 weeks of the last course session. After the exam, you will receive notification of your final result as soon as possible. Should you obtain a successful result, you will receive an accredited certificate.

CerTech

The organisation of our ROVC exams is done in collaboration with CerTech. CerTech is an independent exam board, responsible for the development, organisation, and administering of exams and tests. More than 10,000 candidates are examined each year on behalf of trade associations, consultancy firms and training institutes. This includes in particular technical, safety, security and organisational & communication exams.
